The spectacular show of the fall: plenty to capture, plenty to paint

Fall colors

Yellow, orange, rusty color and red: leaves say good-bye to their shelter tree and throw themselves into the swirling wind. It is the ancient show of the fall: the last waltz of leaves with the wind as they fall down, down, down …

Fall art, acrylic on canvas

While the fall is writing a summary about everything that was done during this year, the nature decorates outdoors with all its treasures: colorful leaves, acorns, rowan berries, chestnuts, wild mushrooms, rose hips, late fall blooms, vegetables in the garden and fruits on trees. This is the season of abundance, and this is the most genuine pleasure for our eyes and soul.

Golden sky, fall painting

Soothing, relaxing and pleasurable

Well, the wind could slow down a bit, and showers could be not that freezing. However, they’re just doing their job whether we like it or not. What can be more soothing and relaxing than creating some paintings in the warm and welcoming fall colors? A cup of herbal tea perhaps, or flavor of chicken soup on the stove? These are useful things for nasty and chilly fall days, too, but they don’t replace the simple pleasure of creation.

Rewarding brushes

If there weren’t these fantastic colors out there, the pain of the summer disappearing behind a dark cloud would be unbearable! I hope everybody can enjoy some hot chicken broth or a cup of tea with homemade pastries at this chilly night in countries where it is getting cold. Other than that: we always have our brushes, pencils and paints. Let us keep painting and drawing, and creating as the fall makes us seek for a shelter indoors! Let us lighten up our inspiration so that we don’t have to blame the darkness and bad weather for our upset moods!

    1. You’re right, there are moments when I could say the same. I put this feeling of “favorite” into drawings, sketches or paintings. However, I recently decided to do only still lives or similar stuff during the winter because this season has been torturing us a lot in the present location.
Fall is a pure poetry of nature, slightly sad and slightly nostalgic just because it has such beauty, such richness in everything, but that is going to disappear without a trace.

    1. Autumn colors are very warming and very cozy. It was very interesting to observe how all students got this pumpkins plus apples plus leaves scene done very well! I mean, we just did the first part by putting down values and main shapes, but all paintings looked very good already!

    1. Thank you, nature was the inspiration. However, all students showed a lot of interest, too. I’ll post their works after a week or so because some will only start doing this subject next week.

    1. That’s the whole idea: to warm up and achieve the feel of coziness. Now imagine some 10 or 12 of such smaller size things all around a large wall! I have some 4 walls (since it’s a gallery, too) filled up with not that huge size paintings, and the feeling is such that even though I don’t have heating yet (waiting for repair people to change the furnace) it warms up me physically because they glove with light and warm colors.

  1. I really liked how you put leaves, and apples on the canvas to create a lovely picture. I have not found any interesting leaves outside. As soon as I find them I will try to draw around the real leaves. Inese, thank you for the inspiration. Sheen.

    1. Thanks! That really works! When you have just blocked in the main shapes with one color, put the first background layer around your objects. The next thing is is you go in layers and put paint you need exactly where you need it, then wash over connection with slightly dump clean flat brush. You can even put all colors on that particular leaf or fruit and wash them together after some 5 minutes, that’s the best time. Repeat after a while with new layer. Good luck!
