Enjoy art projects in pink

Illusions and visions

There is no “undo” command in our life. This makes everything we pursue, experience or achieve absolutely irreversible. Everything is a small moment, frozen in time. As I’m typing these words or you’re reading them, the past washes this moment away and puts it in the big folder of our lifetime’s history. The cold sun rays of the disappearing day are pouring over the nearby rooftops and the highest tree branches. This creates an illusion of warmth in the air. Yet, it is an illusion. As the quiet stream of twilight starts flowing across the sky, we will find ourselves in even colder conditions, minus thirty or so. That’s why we create art projects in sunny colors.

Uplifting colors for grey mood

How does this relate to pink projects? Very simple: when the environment is unfriendly, we should try doing something pleasant. For me, that is drawing and painting something which takes me far away from this cold winter day and places in surroundings where I’d love to be. This is an easy mental transformation into a feeling-better state. We actually did similar project in the classroom. The first project was all about yellow and orange, and the next one was painting flowers in pink. These projects can be done by absolutely everybody whether they have any experience or not. They are as basic as one, two, three.

Step 1

Choose the reference image and draw the main lines with pencil or do a drawing from memory.

Step 2

Draw over the most suitable lines with a black pen. Black ink can be used, as well, if somebody has it.

Step 3

Follow the reference image or your imagination and apply colors which seem to be most fitting the drawing. We apply color on one leaf or on one petal at a time. We start with light washes and go over some areas with more intense color. Wash out connection lines with pure water.

The result

Drawings which do not look perfect at all become extremely beautiful with this approach. We were applying washes and glazes of yellow, red, crimson red and dark red with blue. Any color was applied using various intensity. These projects took us about 3 hours in total. The rose was painted in a similar way. Since it is pure watercolor, I used only watercolor paint without black pen.

Start seeing

Just one more thing:  everybody can draw and paint and, therefore, create for themselves a beautiful rescue place where to avoid troubles and hardships. However, we have to learn seeing things in an artistic way first. This feels almost like developing a much better perception of the surrounding world. We are used to see everything just walking by and running over. Now, it is time to start noticing lines, shapes, shadows, colors, contrast and features that make this particular subject attractive. That is the moment when we can put it on paper or canvas.

Drawing and painting with watercolor is fun. Such illustrations and paintings are beautiful and look fantastic in your art portfolio, on your wall and when published.

    1. 🙂 Yes, I love that soft pink too 🙂 and I like what you said about doing something lovely when the world seems little chaotic 🙂 <3

    1. Thanks Diane! I appreciate you read the article and found it interesting! These are from our most recent project. I always need to do quite a few demos, and time to time, I am finishing them, too!

  1. Thank you for your comments about the internet. Recently I have been researching botanic art and after looking at all the beautiful work I have begun to see my own work in a different light. It is easy to feel diminished by it all, so I will follow your advice and do it for myself, because I love to paint.

    1. Absolutely! People sometimes imagine that their work needs to be compared to some imagined standards, however, the freedom and creativity in art means, that we can all do it in our own way and nobody should point at this and say this is incorrect. There are millions of options to express oneself and the most important part is simply follow your heart and feelings and over time you’ll achieve what you are looking for. I would advise never to give up any activity which makes you happy just because the results of your work do not look exactly like somebody else’s work which again some person has described as good. That’s why we are unique and have rights to implement this uniqueness in our writing, painting, drawing, singing, playing an instrument, dancing and so on.

    1. Absolutely everybody can learn to draw and paint, it’s just so that some can people see things that other people cannot. To learn painting or drawing we have to start with exercising our ability to see things in proportion, in relationship to other ones and as well proportions within the particular object. It takes some practice, but everybody can easily draw approximate and generalized objects. The block is most often in the way we think about this activity, so the first task should be: unblock the mind and relax allowing the hand to put your vision onto paper or canvas.

    1. Thanks! It means these drawings and paintings make the right impression! I was just thinking today: I don’t want to paint any more winter, not at all, just flowers, spring, summer and sunny fall. No snow and no cold touched landscapes!

  2. Hi Inese,

How is the medication working and how are you doing? You looked fantastic in your photo with your valentines flowers.

I am now able to drive, and can sit for a couple of hours, so I was wondering if I can join in your March evening classes? What night do you have space?

    1. Thanks Helen! Your botanical paintings are done with such accuracy! They look so real and attractive! Well, I can unfortunately spend on each image some hour, sometimes two, but that’s all. Time is of big importance, and I regret not being able to spend as much of it as I would love on any drawing. However, I also use a transparent paper for initial drawing since I am doing it whenever possible from the real thing. Drawing always was and will be my most favorite part of any painting.

  3. You know, Inese, it is our nature to be prideful in some cases. We desire attention or prominence for the wrong reasons. We even pray for it that way to God! But He won’t likely answer such a prayer because of wrong motives.

I find myself falling to the sins of pride at times. I am a bit competitive, which isn’t bad in and of itself, but it can lead to sinful ways. Boasting, striving to “best” another regardless of the costs, etc.

But you are right. We need to take our obligations, responsibilities, dreams, goals, and everything else and put them into proper perspective. They are for God’s benefit first, then for the benefit of others. Finally, if we do this successfully, we may derive our reward from knowing we did things with a Christian attitude!

    1. Exactly, some people try to become the best regardless of means used for this purpose. However, I’m blaming the social media for upsetting honest people because we can see quite often how these who cheat can thrive and the honest ones, well, just survive. I also believe the globalization of everything has turned personalities into mass humans since it is trying to make everybody to be the same way: you must be famous (so especially kids and teens are engaging in any abnormality just to get more views and more attention), you must be rich, you must look like 30 at 80, you must have your “dream” home, you must be fit, you must wear whatever, you must have this, etc. … endlessly. What’s the catch? Companies which produce useless products get to sell them: because it’s a must, right? TV and media turn peoples’minds away from their own painful problems and rather than living their own life everybody wants to follow the so-called celebrities and real celebrities. It’s just so sad when people don’t deal with their own life and they cannot take the truth and become proactive about their own situations, and this all causes so much fake as-if-good-life appearance when in fact the health conditions are worse than they ever were and there’s nothing good about either economy or well-being in general. It is shocking and it is sad. This takes its origin in admiring the wrong idols and degradation of true moral values.

    2. Oh my, Inese, you have said so much here! For the past two days, I have read this over and over. I have so much I could say, but nothing more important than this: Your words are very wise and truthful!

The evil one is crafty, cunning, and opportunistic. He looks for ways to try to destroy all that God has done, and all that Christ has made. He seeks most of all to drag Christians down into hell with him!

He uses everything of the world to work his evil against us, and so many people don’t ever see it. The advances in this world such as social media, and the internet are very powerful and addictive.

They can be tools for good, but also for so much bad! Satan can use them to distract us and lead us away from Godly roots. And people follow along because they want inclusion and the acceptance of others. This is especially true with youngsters, teens, etc.

This is why the call to God must be made at every opportunity. We must speak out to others in every way we can, for there are some who have never even given God a thought…some still have never heard His gospel message.

I am guilty myself of falling down and pulling away from my Christian responsibilities. We all will sin at times in our lives, we are not perfect, only our Lord is perfect all the time and in every way!

But we must “work on our walk.” We need to make the effort to keep ourselves away from evil seductions and draw closer to God. In this way, we become “proactive” as you have said in dealing with our own life, our own sins.

And we set an example for others by our actions. This is the way God wants things…souls dedicated by the heart, sincere in faith, and showing love to others.

This is a hard walk. Those who say “aw, religious people are weak, they need a crutch to lean on” do not understand, they are worldly.

It takes much strength to stand for the Lord in a world which seek its own all the time! Yet, people will still not see the advantages of Christian life, and sadly they will pay the eternal price one day…

All we can do is keep ourselves with God and hope in His promises. He will see to the others Himself.

Thank you for your deep insights and comments here, Inese. God bless you for speaking up in His name!

      ~Steve

    3. Thanks Steve! That’s right, we start with ourselves, we make this Earth a better place and eventually this would result in a better life for everybody. Quite often it’s not the case. Well, we have to work on brightening up this spot we call our daily life, this includes always creating more light so that darkness has no room to spread out.

    4. Again, so well said. God is the True Light and exposes the deeds which are done in the darkness. We need to start with ourselves, keeping out of those “dark spaces.”

      ~Steve

    5. Thanks! I’m following this rule very strictly. My paintings don’t have black, not because of artistic reasons, but because I would love to avoid it in any possible way.

    6. Now that’s one I’ve never heard before! Good for you! They say black is the combination of all colors…

If we stand up for all the colors, or worldly stains, our lives would become “black,” dark, and ugly.

On the other hand, it is said that white is the absence of all color…or stain. Only God makes us white as He washes away all stains through Christ Jesus.

Humm…just a thought for the day!

      ~Steve

    7. Thanks! I take it like that: if there is no light, we will perceive black, since black means absolute darkness. As light travels through the universe, it gets absorbed, transmitted, reflected and re-transmitted, in other words apart from light wave frequencies which we are able to detect with our eyes, I would refer to color as energy which is present in everything. When we look at some original drawing or painting, the energy becomes obvious, and most likely we will feel attracted or not to some work. The mechanism of these interactions is way more complicated, but the bottom line is the good energy is what matters. If we can perceive a form, there is already some light which makes this form visible.

    8. Your wisdom comes from a spiritual point of view combined with laws of the physical world. I am quite impressed!

You are to be commended for the expertise which has shaped your insights, and your keen perception of the world around you…seen and unseen!

      ~Steve

    9. Thanks Steve! My other work involves quite a lot of learning, I’ve been for more than 30 years in medical research and writing, and I was obsessed with reading for a big part of my life. Due to long hours at computer, my eyesight has worsened, therefore, my reading is limited now, but I really love it, I love discovering new things for me. I’m putting together some stuff about herbs at the moment, my grandmother started teaching me about different features of herbs, grasses and weeds when I was some 5 years old or so. I will make dandelion salad today, so I have to go and get some fresh leaves because morning hours are the best ones to pick them. Have a great day!
