Acrylic flower paintings in new settings – art never expires

Flower paintings in acrylic

As an artist, we always have some favorite paintings. Some of them we don’t sell at all, and some we give as gifts to dear people. Since many of my previous posts were about watercolor, I’d love to post this time a few acrylic flower paintings. This post has quite a few images of painted pink and white flowers. Unfortunately, as we get older, there seems to be less time for anything. That refers to painting, posting, sharing and so on. Somebody told me that we feel this way since we spend more time on any task.

Quality over quantity

I suppose with experience, both life and art, we value quality over quantity. Anybody who’s spent decades creating art, can reflect of the process of discovery. Discovering subject, discovering new color palette, discovering adorable things we didn’t like before, discovering new dimensions of the same old story. I love pure and clean colors, and pink color offers so many shades.

My paintings with past

As the time goes by so swiftly, I sort of regret not painting exactly what I prefer. That’s as opposed to subjects I teach in art classes. I’ve mentioned before that an artwork for juried show, artwork for quick sale, commissioned artwork and paintings which I create as demonstrations – they are all very different by nature. Time has been always a factor, but also my health problems. So, you have to be ok when you cannot do anything at all also. I didn’t paint these flower paintings yesterday, but hopefully got better images of them.

Art is more than copy of reality

My taste doesn’t comply with generally preferred art which we see online. That is sunsets, waves, backlit shapes, too sweet nature scenes, as well as very close copies of photos. I always believed art is more than copy of reality. The latter anybody can manage with enough patience, tools and devices. Not everybody can paint spontaneously or draw without any printouts or edited images.

Relation to reality

On the other hand, I love that my paintings display things which are recognizable. People frequently tell me; they know that or this place in my painting. Well, such place doesn’t exist, but apparently the painting relates to somebody’s experience. Sometimes, the viewer can feel fragrance of flower. That’s why I avoid painting completely abstract art, but I still have a lot of abstracted paintings, especially, the extra textured ones. Also, my backgrounds are not definite.

Everything is art, but I disagree

While all artistic genres – music, singing, acting, writing, poetry – have moved on and aimed for higher goals and more mastery, internet has facilitated degradation of classic art. If you want to see what’s for sale and what’s taught on some skill-sharing sites, just google any term. It can be quite awful and total beginners art. I remember how my students 10 and more years ago were so self-critical. Nowadays, that’s a ready-for-sale art. I agree, it’s easier to hang an abstract on the wall, but it becomes a simple decoration, not always art. How long are you going to look at 2 lines or some big blob of one color?

Enjoy!

I always struggled with photos of my paintings because to my sharp artistic eye, the photos have never the exact colors and I usually have to crop off some crucial parts to make the image straight. Nevertheless, let me know if you like some flower or other painting. I don’t think original paintings have ever been so affordable. It’s been a while, and I wish everything was better, but enjoy! With better, I mean mostly the financial side. The creative side is fine, I never have any problem with that.

    1. Thanks very much Maria!
They are bright and bold. I couldn’t include the big ones, but these paintings still display my style and love for tasteful color and composition.
I hope your summertime has started on the right foot!

    1. Thanks!
I think I finally found one way to take better pictures of paintings.
The backgrounds were similar for some 20 flower paintings, they went like series. I don’t have all of them any longer, but I agree the strong background helps blooms stand out.
      Have a good weekend!

    1. Thanks very much!
These paintings are from previous years, some from quite many years ago. My wall space isn’t huge, so I often forget what paintings I have. I sometimes take a few out and get new pictures.
I love rounded shapes. Still life is my most favorite subject and I often implement apples, plums, lemons, pears, berries and so on, just to add some rounded shape. They allow for implementing lots of volume and dimension.Flowers are naturally having soft color transitions and flowing shapes, therefore, they suit my intentions well.
      Have a good weekend!

  1. Beautiful Inese…. I love your new layout of your whole blog, alot of work has been put into it..
Your paintings always bring JOY to my heart as I recognise the flowers and the gift you have in bringing them to life…
Loved your displays and setting in the backdrops you created…

Like you TIME is often elusive, as we try cramming everything we have to do in a day.. Sometimes those pleasures we each enjoy with our hobbies are often pushed to one side as those who must need to earn a living etc…

I do so hope your own health issues are improving and you are finding yourself settled into your routines..

I have a painting I started months ago… Its one of our Cat, in acrylics, I painted in a thick paint, over an old painted canvas… My background is plain with metallic paints in it.. I wanted to try something a bit different. I wanted to add a mouse… yet the mouse still has yet to be painted… Problem being our Cat would not be our cat, without the mouse.. LOL… No doubt when its ready to be painted it will be… 🙂

I have so many old canvas’s that are not so well painted… And no training, just follow my own inner flow…. 🙂 Unlike your beautiful paintings which I find beautifully created…

Loved my visit here Inese… Sending love and well wishes my friend..
    Love Sue xx <3

    1. Thanks you very much Sue!
It’s been a while since I posted every second week at least. Well, everything takes me longer, indeed.
I think that painting over previously painted canvas makes the new painting better. Acrylic is like that, the more layers, the more interesting painting becomes. I’m sorry seeing the first layer only paintings which show canvas and no paint whatsoever. It will be fine.
Many decades ago I started just like that, plus, without internet you didn’t have an idea what’s out there. Perfecting oneself and improving oneself at least takes care of your personal style, there nothing like that. While copying tutorial makes one just one-of-very-many-the-same.
Beginners art is unique and beautiful as long as they stick to their personal discoveries. I couldn’t call you beginner, though, there are so many artistic creations already.
I have done many pastels recently, due to needs of a private classes student. Pastel is beautiful and allows for better color and shape creation between layers. maybe you could try cat in pastel?
The drawback with pastels is they need to be framed and some people cannot take the pigment dust. On the other hand, nothing else compares to volume and dimension since it’s rather drawing.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    2. Yes, I’ve done my best animal portraits in pastels. There’s lots of layering .. They challenge us to begin with but loved experimenting with them xx 😘

    3. Well, you have done everything already. I simply thought since pastels give a lot of control, it’s easier to achieve what we want in portrait, pet painting, still life, floral.etc.
If you use acrylic in many layers it should still work.
      All the best!

    4. Thank you Inese… Its nice to be still experimenting and enjoying creating no matter what the medium… Be it paints of yarn.. 🙂 Much love my friend xx

    5. No problem. We have huge time difference. It’s always tricky to catch up with everything. I intend to check out your posts also. Now, heading outdoors.

    1. Thank you very much!
I suppose, that’s what I would like to achieve, somebody noticing how beautiful the painted flowers can be.
I hope you have a good weekend!

    1. Thanks!
These are just a few, not the big canvas, but I think they look good in correct settings.
I have painted many pink flowers because I always need to do a demo for art classes. Pink is the easiet color, it allows for all kinds of modification – cool, warm, sunny, strong, soft and so forth. Easy to do in acrylic.
      I appreciate the nice comment!

    1. I love flowers, both growing and painting.
I don’t think internet has helped art. It has decreased its value and uniqueness.
All I can do is to promote manually created art. All the other kinds come out as prints, and this is the only kind which captures true human touch and energy.
      All the best!
