Art classes and workshops

Watercolor painting and sketching, and acrylic painting classes for adults and youth 12+ by professional artist Inese Poga provide with skills and knowledge, teach techniques, specifics of the medium, use of tools and art supplies.

You will watch demo of every step, be given explanations, decide and understand what, where and why. We learn about the important aspects of painting from composition to paint application, values, contrast and how to achieve that. You don’t need to copy, trace, replicate, you learn creating art which is close to you.

If group times don’t fit you, please, see Private, Semi-private art classes, your own group classes, or click on the menu.

Since I can accept only 4 participants for each group, please finalize your application with payment in a timely manner.

After May 28 and until September, I will have only private and semi-private arrt classes. Go to Menu or click on

Private art lessons

We use 12 x 18″, 14x 18″ or larger watercolor paper. Firm, 140 lb cold press watercolor paper works very well. We start with pencil drawing, go over with black pen line, add watercolor wash and details. Simple technique with fantastic results.

Fee is $95 for 3 classes.

You use your own art supplies. For link to the list, please, scroll down . Unfortunately, missed classes can not be replaced since the groups are small (4 participants) and we just keep working on what we have started painting.

I always paint along with my students and provide them with explanations and recommendations not only about painting techniques, but all tools, paper, canvas, brushes and specifics of paints we use.

In-person art class is the most beneficial way to learn painting. Unlike a tutorial, it gives you insight in many techniques, use of tools, brushes and painting surfaces. You use your own canvas, paper, brushes and paints to learn what they can do for you.

It is very beneficial to use pre-painted canvas for acrylic painting

For better painting, pre-paint canvas to prime it. One decent layer of grey or cardboard color paint has a few functions: it saturates canvas and provides with medium dark value which is very important for painting. To prime canvas, you can use leftover or low quality acrylic paint.

For watercolor painting, you will learn many essential aspects of this medium

You will learn how to prepare paper, transfer drawing, how to mix watercolor paints, what optimal water-pigment proportion is, washes, glazed washes, detailed parts, wet on wet and dry on wet techniques, correct use of brushes.

My art classes mean therapeutic, calming and nice atmosphere: meditation with line and color!

  1. Hello. I am wondering if you have any classes for kids (11 almost 12) on weekends? I noticed that your weekday classes are for 13+. Also do you ever offer classes in drawing/sketching?
    Thank you.

    1. All group classes which I have are listed here. I only have acrylic art classes on Mondays for that age.
Also, if somebody has patience and is really interested, they can join any class.
I also have private classes, but weekends are really full and scheduled for my Masterclasses, other workshops and studio events.
