The vertical impact

Vertical painting format

Should you paint your current subject using vertical or horizontal format? Anybody who paints and draws, will most likely say: it depends. It really depends, and especially on the subject of a painting. If it is a commission, it will depend on client’s choice and placement of art.

Attractive vertical compositions

I think, when it comes to not that large paintings, I mean, sizes 16 x 20 in up to 20 x 24 in, I really love using the vertical format. I have sometimes adjusted whatever I see or imagine for the use of vertically shaped canvas. Long vertical images are compositionally attractive. It is possible to implement tall trees or abstract background, or separate parts of an abstracted image on a long vertical canvas. I’d love that. I haven’t been to art store recently, but I will purchase a few very long canvases just for images I have on my mind.

Trying to arrange the new studio space

Studio move is complete. It took me more than a month, and I obviously could not paint anything new during this time. For the most part, art supplies and painting tools have been sorted out. I am able to find most things what I am looking for. Watercolor paintings and drawings are still packed in huge folders, I mean, large size folders and folders containing numerous paintings and drawings. I have no access to these at the moment. Acrylic paintings are mostly packed up still, too, but it is easier to sort through them.

Arranging art supplies

We haven’t managed to hang any paintings on walls yet, but I have also to arrange and organize 5 rooms of our personal living space, as well as 3 classrooms for my studio, my large office and a beautiful outdoor space. I planted, replanted and took care of numerous plants before and after moving, not everything is done yet, but it certainly takes time and lots and lots of work.

New intensive summer art classes

I am preparing materials for the new intensive summer classes, and I hope they will be very successful. I intend to present easy and very attractive subjects to students: they are all new subjects. That is why I need to work out painting steps and techniques for easy steps for every project. We have good light here, large spaces, both, indoors and outdoors.

    1. Thanks! It’s been quite a few decades in art. I wish I had more time for just painting. This moving every year cuts out so much time, about 3 months every year. After that, I need to sort things out and get into the right mood. I love painting. I think, nothing in life compares to that because I’ve been doing all kinds of things, gardening, fashion designing, simply designing, writing, especially in my native language, traveling, cooking, teaching and research in life sciences and medical field and so on. Nothing compares to creating art.

  1. I’m so glad to hear that the move is coming to closure, although I know there is still organizing and arranging/decorating and such to do. It’s a lot of work to go through big changes like this, but also so wonderfully worth it for the new energy it opens up. Wishing you continued flow with it all. Beautiful paintings and post!

    1. Thanks Tania Marie!
It is a lot of work. Everything would be ok, but these moves also mean big disruptions. I moved last year, in the summer, as well, and it was more difficult because that was moving from another town. Before that, we had the place for 8 years, that was the longest period I have stayed in one place.
We had to move 7 times while I have been in Canada for 15 years.
The easiest move was from Europe, Latvia, across the ocean. Well, I arrived with 1 suitcase and stayed. I have moved at least 12 times while I lived in Latvia, between towns and within the capital city. So, I could call myself a moving expert.
The more paintings I have, the more difficult each move becomes. It is more than 1200 at the moment, not counting small watercolors, pastels and drawings, I don’t really pay attention to these. I also have very many plants because I love plants and gardening. I think movers were ready to kill me this year. Plant pots are heavy and difficult to transport without damaging plant itself. I have numerous outfits because I am a good fashion designer and dressmaker. I love reading, and many books are one more difficult thing to move. I would call these moves a nightmare for the movers who do the heavy stuff and for us also because it is always living in the middle of boxes and mess for a few months every year.
It’s coming along, and I am glad about that, but with every move I have less and less desire to unpack boxes. I am getting older, too, passing 60 this year.

    2. You’re most welcome! Wow! Yes, you are a moving expert indeed with a gypsy heart <3 1200 paintings is incredible! I can definitely understand how this would be challenging and that although moving can really be great to change the energy, is also a disruption to life where you have to take pause for a while. And it's not a pause to relax, but a pause to keep moving energy and integrate a new space. So, it's a lot and with all the plants you have too (I love gardening as well and clothing!). So wonderful that you are a fashion designer as well. You wear many creative hats. I admire that and all the things you do are things I love <3 I wish you so much good energy with making this new space home.

    3. It sounds good, but I would love nothing more than simply to relax for a few days or weeks. The last vacation I had was in 2013.
It is so great to just go somewhere. I prefer to settle down in some great spot where I can paint and read and meet local people. That is what I need most: to turn off all alerts and alarms, to simply enjoy summer which is so short here.
It’s not going to happen for a while yet. I get some people tonight helping move around some heavy stuff. Husband is also practically always working. Wherever I look, there is more work to be done. I’ve been even putting off laundry for a while, but I really have to do it.
I’ve spent numerous years exploring subconsciousness, fate, interactions with universe and ability to foretell future and recall past which we all have since as a small cell of the universe just like the small cells of our body, we have a program and we have certain functions, we know what our task is and we know a lot of things about past and future. We need to regain access to subconscious mind.
As a medical researcher for more than 3 decades I have also insight in physical abilities, genetics, substance interactions, and different medical conditions. Therefore, I have a good base for promoting my discoveries in that field.
Well, WordPress is ok, but the problem is that hardly anybody reads anything. I have another blog, I had it for some 6 or 7 years, and I am sharing my suggestions there. Most people do not know that I have 2 blogs and 2 websites, although, they follow at least one.
If interested, you can see the articles here, they sort of deal with energy, too, but at a different angle:

    4. Gosh, I hope you can get some relaxing in once settled and go somewhere that feeds your heart and soul as you described. I love how well-versed you are in so many fields – all of interest to me so I’ll definitely check out your links provided. Thank you so much!

    5. Yes, I really need some quiet and relaxing time. I will make it, I’m sure. Well, it always depends only on us. We have to prioritize, and that’s what I’m going to do. I love myself and I love giving gifts to myself. Such summer relaxation, although, I won’t travel or go away, will be a gift.

    1. Thanks! I’m working a lot at the moment. I hope to publish something new soon.
