Spring edition, moving art studio

My art studio is moving again, indeed, it has happened so many times during the recent years. I’ve moved three times since 2018 and now I have to do that again. While it sounds quite simple, it actually isn’t. The toughest part is finding a place and qualify for it. That requires mountains of paperwork, numerous hours of printing, scanning, signing, sending documents and so forth. That is the reason I hardly looked at the internet, any social media or blog sites. There wasn’t enough time in a day to cope with all that, and nothing was left for painting, unfortunately.

I did try to catch up with the artistic side, I sure did. However, that mostly resulted in wasted paint and a bit of frustration. As soon as I squeezed out acrylic paint and got in the mood for painting, the phone rang or I received a message, we have to go: to see a place, to meet somebody, to do whatever, and there was no other way around it. As you know, acrylic paint dries very fast, and even when preserving some in a tight container, it doesn’t work quite well as the fresh one.

The most recent painting: White trillium blooms in spring forest

I’m really hooked on the moment when nature awakes. The most fantastic view for me can be a tiny sprout breaking through the soil and greeting the sunshine. The first wild flowers are such a welcome sight! Strength to overcome the freeze and courage to break through impossible obstacles: that is what grasses and wild flowers have. I cannot resist, I return to wildflowers in spring settings every year.

One of my most favorite color combinations involves earthy tones, many shades of green as in sprouts, young leaves and grasses, blue patches of sky, as well as bright white, blue and pink of the wildflowers. According to such palette, I paint some knew dreamscape which I most often have seen only in imagination or which is stored in my memory chambers.

My art studio in this big house had to be adjusted and the actual painting space was sparse. As you might know from my previous posts, I usually paint only by daylight. There have been times when I have to add evenings, but I try to avoid painting at night when artificial light is required. It could be my eyesight which dictates that, but I am very sure that for true color match we need the daylight.

So, the art studio is on the move again, and I have started to pack up a few things. Very large and small paintings will be moved first, as well as part of my countless brushes and art supplies. I would love to sell a few more paintings, but I don’t have much time for advertising at the moment. We will be moving 9 large rooms into 5 rooms, only one of which is large. My art studio is going to be arranged there, in the largest room. Daylight will be much better in the new place, however. It’s an older building with large windows, lots of character and huge backyard. That is such a luxury nowadays!

My best guess is everything will be ready around April 15, and that’s when I can start with my own paintings and art classes. Until then, – I go through moving troubles, packing and unpackaging, sorting, cleaning and being busy with all kinds of things which are not necessarily art related. There will be moment when we won’t have internet yet, and when I am all set up, I will come up with my newest discoveries in painting. You can still scroll through my blog which documents all art studio moves, gives lots of advice for new and established artists and offers excellent quality art at great prices. Stay well! I’d love to hear from you!

    1. Thank you Jaime!
It will take about 3 more weeks to move everything over. It’s a large place here, and it takes lots of work to scale down.
I will be probably setting up the new studio sometime closer to the end of March. Right now, it’s the uncertainty of being in the middle.
I wouldn’t say I enjoy moving, but what can we do?
The housing market is boilingly hot and everybody wants to sell.
The new place is commercially zoned and in a better location, but the living space will be tight.
I hope everything is going well for you!

    1. Thank you very much!
I wanted to finish more half-done paintings, but it might be so I won’t have time. It’s also difficult to always interrupt painting, then come back for a moment, then leave again, that doesn’t work well for me.
It will take a while until we get into the new place, and due to the crazy real estate situation in Ontario, we’ve got to pay for 2 places currently. We couldn’t let the new place go because it is commercially zoned, and for my art things that means a lot. I mention here and there my Whitby art gallery. That was also a commercially zoned property, and everything was much better: art sales, art classes. Where I was in-between, no chance of attracting attention. My art always shows and sells much better in person. That is the good part, backyard, too. The inconveniences will just need to be tolerated.
I hope everything is fine with you, I will stop by at your site when I get some free moment. All the best!

    1. Thanks Rebecca!
The energy levels are not the same as some 20 years ago. I do what I can. That’s why it will take more than a month yet. Eventually, everything will be moved over. We don’t have any help at the moment, and husband is working like 18 hours a day. It won’t be easy and simple move, but whatever, we will manage.
As the spring comes closer, I always feel better. That’s one good thing.
I hope you are doing fine! Will stop by at your site some time.

  1. Lovely to see your work, Inese, and best of luck with your move. Fingers crossed this new location, though smaller, will become a creative hub for your painting.

    1. Thanks Jo-Anne!
Well, for art it will be better, but for living not really. There just aren’t all the conveniences, etc. what are in the newest buildings. One cannot have everything. I have no idea yet how to squeeze most important things in. It’s very clear that something will have to go to storage or to the dumpsite.
When the weather is good, it will be great place to spend time outdoors.
I so much wish, everything just packed itself and moved over. Oh, my, I’m fairly slow and so many tasks take physical strength. I work on something until pain gets bad and then I stop. April should be way better.
All the best to you! I will stop by at at your website at some point.

  2. Your paintings are just so natural and beautiful.. I haven’t been on very much at all. I try once in awhile but not too often. Actually I am blogging right now about my husband’s condition.. alzheimer’s hoping maybe it will help people understand it a bit more… Anyway Inese… hope your move goes well. It sounds like a nice place. .. Diane

    1. Thank you Diane! It’s very nice to hear from you.
I paint in layers, I draw using a certain sequence, too, so the look of paintings comes quite easy. However, when we need a lot of heating, painting with acrylic can be challenging because paint dries on touch. It’s been very cold recently, and moving some things in cold weather and on icy, slippery ground will be also tricky.
I have progressed very slowly with packing since I have bad days and good days, and today is not a good day, I feel completely sick again. I managed to avoid COVID and that’s great.
The condition of your husband is tough to deal with. It’s surprising how many people in Canada have it. Until I moved over here, I hadn’t even heard of such disease which causes so much suffering. Thankfully, I still don’t know of anybody back in Latvia who has such condition. You have to be very patient and very strong.
The place is nice for a few reasons: commercially zoned with character and huge backyard. Other than that, kitchen is tiny, upstairs is really tiny, hardly any storage and no air conditioning. It will be problematic to place everything that is necessary, but we will have to adjust. This place was big, but the light was pathetically bad and my art didn’t do anything, hardly any visitors ever. That will change and be better in the next place.
I hope you are ok and dealing successfully with everything that comes your way. All the best to you Diane!

  3. I’m with you friend! I know how hard it is to move so I send the best energy that all will go smoothly. I believe you will like this new space better…I hope so! I know you are so busy…just know that I am cheering you on from miles away! Be well <3

    1. Thanks very much Lorrie!
Well, nothing is going to the plan or smoothly at the moment. One load is left unattended at the moment, had issues with helpers. There’s still the next weekend. It’s just a very big place to move. As soon as you need to hire help, all kinds of things happen. It could have been way better, unfortunately it is what it is. Like always, totally stressed out and not much useful help. It’s costing fortune also. Not that I can afford that, but what can you do?
At this moment, I can only hope the new place will be better. So far, it’s a big mess in the big room, the movers just dumped everything there. Next week the big things are going. Well, it’s a lot of work. In some 2 weeks it should be more or less done. I haven’t seen canvas or paper for a very long time. That’s what happens. Probably, I can resume something in April.
      All the best to you!

    2. Ah…dear Inese. I’m sorry the move has some blips and isn’t going as smoothly as you would like. It is a lot to coordinate and then count on everyone to do their part!
Soon you will be settled and then it will take you a little while , but eventually you will find a place for everything and have everything in its place! Then you will be back to creating…and I hope teaching as well 😊
Make sure to take good care of yourself during this time…it is a lot of physical stress! Thinking good thoughts for you and praying things go well from here on out!!

    3. Yes, thanks, Lorrie! Today was a pure nightmare. Trying still to recover from crying and everything.
Well, it’s not what I expected and I hope this gets better over time.
      Regards!

    4. A huge virtual hug, my friend ((__)) I know it is hard when the dark times hit…but I also know you know that you will continue to walk forward and handle everything life throws at you! Sending lots of good energy to you, Inese. May today be one filled with wonderful blessings <3
