The golden view of early fall

August is here, and it’s about time to create some fall landscape and treescape. The colors are not here yet, but they’ll be everywhere before we know. Just as I wrote before, I get tired of green and I need something completely different. This post shows my most recent acrylic painting ” Golden view of early fall” on lots of textures in the background, or underneath the multiple layers of paint.

I started creating very textured paintings many years ago. Before modeling paste was available, I used plaster and plaster cloth, then cured it and, thus, got amazing textures. It’s hard to say which one is easier to use. Plaster takes more layers of primer before paint application, but modeling paste sometimes dries too quick. Nowadays, textured art is common, but it wasn’t when I started creating it some 15 years ago.

I asked my husband to take a few pictures with me working on this painting in order to present the size of it. Everything I post just as a cropped image of painting alone doesn’t allow seeing it in space and with dimensions. For a textured art and in order textures were more or less visible on a photo, it is important to get some angled views.

Just adding more layers to Golden view painting. The perspective of iPhone is quite terrible, but one can see the size at least

Golden view painting on the easel. It took me about 3 weeks to get it painted going over layer by layer and so for many times.

I hope you can see how textures push through the paint layers
Golden eternity painting by Inese Poga
I eventually changed the name to Golden eternity, especially, when viewing the actual painting in person it makes sense

The “Golden eternity” is 81 x 66 cm or 32 x 28 inches in size.

Have a great August and fun enjoying nature! Nature is an endless source of the best things on our Earth.

  1. Your painting is beautiful and so are you, Inese! I think it was a wonderful idea to take photos of you with your painting. I think people like to associate an artist with her work 🙂
I hope that things are well for you. Sweet Blessings <3

    1. Thank you very much Lorrie!
It is certainly a good idea. The reason I have very few pictures is that I mostly paint when I am alone. It is almost impossible to get a selfie with large painting like this, and I never managed to get a device which takes pictures from distance.
My husband took a few pictures and it happened so that I was almost done this painting. It all came together nicely. It’s not always the case, though.
I completely agree that people want to see artist at work and pictures of progress.
I’m going out to water the garden at the moment.
Everything is excellent and I hope you’re doing good also!

    2. Thanks Inese 🙂 I am well. Adjusting to the new normal. I moved and that was quite a large undertaking…but so wonderful as I love my new home. I have not been able to dive into my creations lately as I have been so busy, but I will soon. I need to create…anything…I just have to make things to feel good! I am happy to hear you are well. <3

    3. Yes, who knows moving better than me? I’ve moved since in Canada some 7 times already, last year was the worst, we hadn’t been even a year at that place, but they need the place for themselves and, thankfully, we’ve got better place. Renting isn’t fun, but we never made up our mind to stay tied up at one location. In Latvia, I moved about 20 times, and obviously across the ocean was a big move, but easy: with 1 suitcase.
It’s great to know you love your new home. I hope it’s yours to stay.
It takes many months to sort out through belongings and find a good suitable spot for them.
Imagine hundreds of books and even more canvases and lots of art supplies? I have lots of plants which I take with me, too. Movers hate that.
You will get back to creation. I’m the same, I first need to make everything ready and neat, and then comes creation.
I suppose, we all need creativity and immersion into it.
      Have a good night!

    4. You know exactly what I am talking about, Inese! Yes I, too, have so many books and art supplies. I thought u might be able to go through them and get rid of some…but everything I touched my heart said, “You need this.” 😉😉
It is no wonder that my office/art room is the last place to be settled. I have not had the energy to go in and set it up yet. But there is lots to keep me busy…and I believe this will be my forever home😁
      Have a wonderful day!

    5. That is definitely lots of work. At least, you know you won’t have to move again. That is so fantastic!
I still have some things in boxes after more than a year. I’m not rushing because I am sure there will be packing up again.
Take your time, everything will turn out just fine.
In fact, it brings peace to mind when you are sorting everything and creating neatness and order in a space. Good luck with that!

    1. Thanks very much Jo-Anne!
I just explained in previous comments that I have very few pictures when I am painting. I will try to have more because I know it’s good to see that person who created art, as well.

    1. Thanks Krish!
I believe I do, I am always trying to use cold and warm color palette to make the subject stand out.

    1. Thanks Liz!
Textures always add a layer of interestingness, too.
Autumn colors are easy to paint, and I have periods when I am doing grey/blue/gold, green, grey, blue, white, and then there is winter palette and spring palette, and at the moment it will be probably golden and grey/blue color schemes.

    2. Thank you Margaret!
I usually feel attracted to some colors and do not want to touch others during some particular periods of time.
My show was scheduled to be on from September 24, therefore, I decided to use mostly my fall treescapes and landscapes. I have very many of them. It feels good to add something new time to time. That’s why I chose this color palette and this view. It’s just so that it’s unclear whether the show will take place or not. I should find out by August 24 approximately.

    1. Thank you very much!
It is a good and impressive painting. I think I have a few hundred just as good. It’s not always that picture works, but this time it apparently did.
When somebody is past 60, they can appreciate a nice comment. I am not that good looking on photos, never was even when I was young. I think husband got it right, although, that was just a quick snap.
      I appreciate you stopping by!

    1. Thanks Shawn!
I think it worked. I wanted to make everything grey at first and then decided on brighter blue. It’s good it looks that way because I hoped for that.

    1. Thanks very much Craig!
I’m sorry I haven’t had time to reply or to return likes. Maybe at the weekend. Stay well!

    1. Thanks!
Well, iphone makes everything more blue, LOL.
In fact, the water part is also not that bright blue, but photos are what they are and editing wouldn’t help color balance too much. I tried.
The painting was for show, not sure whether it takes place.

    2. Especially when photographed. Any camera changes everything: proportions, colors and balance.
Also, device you’re viewing the photo on ads its changes, any screen and any monitor has very distinctive color tones. I wrote about that before: I have 4 monitors at 2 computers and every single one shows different image, plus phone screen looks much brighter because image is very compressed. I feel colors in their smallest nuances and sometimes deviation from the true tone is very annoying.
My eye color usually adjusts to surroundings, when I wear bright blue, green-blue, aqua or grey, I sort of get reflection of that color. I design my own outfits and use that feature.
It’s hard to say whether any eyes change color, but brown eyes also can become strong black or lighter fire-brown-orange color depending on what’s the background.
Realistically, we cannot trust a photo for lifelikeness.
My face, for instance, is rather elongated, but it looks much rounder on the photo. It’s because of very small distance.
There are extremely photogenic people, I do not belong to them.
      Thanks for comments!

    3. Thanks! I appreciate. I already posted on FB a newest painting, soon will be on the blog, too. Dealing with renovation hazards, LOL

  2. Looking at your paintings really make me happy. There’s just something so whimsy about the colors you use. Currently, I’m drawing microorganisms, but this painting makes me want to paint landscapes again. 🙂

    1. Thanks very much!
I generally use colors intuitively and go by how I feel about some landscape or view. It might a minus, but I do not follow color trends, rather my personal preferences.
I doubt that color charts can help anybody creating better color schemes for paintings. With so many paint manufacturers and very distinct quality from great and excellent to very poor, one cannot hope to recreate the exact color by using a description or list since the color we get also depends greatly on proportion, amount of water and medium if applied.
Techniques differ, too. Yellow is very weak color in acrylic, therefore, it requires many layers and it still might not look yellow.
I’m glad I inspired you to paint some landscape.
I usually paint only what I see, therefore, the smallest thing is probably butterfly or small bird.
      Have a great weekend!

  3. simply magnifique!!! <3 glad to discover your awesome art, admiration and respect for your talent! good luck in all your present and future endeavours! 🙂

    1. Thank you Melanie!
I’m glad for every person who eventually discovers my art!

    1. Thanks! It looks like the art exhibition will be online after all. That’s regrettable because internet can only show so much, and there’s usually no reference to size, as well as color display depends on device the viewer is using.

    1. Thanks!
I usually allow painting to develop and then I go where it takes me.
I don’t know how about struggles, painting takes work and time, that’s for sure.
For a change, I used blue-grey, but it looks very blue on the creek part. I like how this came out, yellow definitely required some 10 layers to go over and over. Yellow is very weak color in acrylic and we need lots of it to make a statement. When it comes to cool and warm we just switch between different colors. I am adding ocher always to yellow because it helps.
